A day before the festival of Eid, Shams-ud-din Iltutmish, the ruler of the Delhi Sultanate, is addressing his subjects. Everyone, including the royal Turkish family, is in a festive mood. Iltutmish has replaced gold coins with silver coins. Shamshad Begum, Iltutmish's mother-in-law, is worried about her dead husband's fame. The Sultan's daughters, Razia and Shazia, are busy preparing special tokens of gift for him. Shamshad Begum is angry with Razia's ignoble behaviour.
Razia Sultan is the story of Razia, the daughter of Sultan Iltutmish and Qutub Begum. Razia, known for her nobility and distinct thoughts, was crowned as the first woman ruler of the Delhi state after her father's death. The drama reveals the journey of Razia from a princess to a Sultan, including her love affair and marriage with Malik Altunia.
