Gravely wounded in the Battle of Vienna, Janissary Hasan Balaban is saved by a witch in an Italian village. As he recovers, he vows vengeance against oppressive lords—unaware that tragedy is about to strike Moena.
Balaban, a soldier in the Janissary army, settles in Moena in northern Italy after the Battle of Vienna in 1683 and fights for the rights of the local people.
